After having read the story of The Pact, I was deeply touched by the positive friendship among three teenagers, firm support as well as deep love from their family members, and the spirit of determination, dedication, discipline showed by three of them. By reading this story, I realized how drug addiction problem could destroy a family, how important it is for children to have a complete family, and how great environment could influence the growth path of a teenager.The Pact tells us a story about three troubled teenagers, George Jenkins, Rameck Hunt and Sampson Davis, grow up together from juvenile delinquents to dentists who make contributions to the society by making a pact.
Geroge, Rameck and Sam all grew up in poor and broken families in New Jersey. The community they lived, were filled with gangsters, criminals, drug dealers, robbers and the living environment were surrounded with desperation and danger.
When George was eleven, he was taken to the dentist to get a brace for his crooked teeth, during the treatment, he spurred a great interest in dentistry and dreamed to become a dentist since then. However, George was raised in a broken family and it was his mother struggled to support the whole family. But George was lucky enough to have people teaching him positive thing throughout his teenage life, like his third-grade teacher, who told George that he would have a great career someday.
Another boy Sam was not that lucky as George, his mother can’t read and his father divorced with her, leaving six children to take care of, therefore, when Sam was 11 years old, he began to take the responsibility of taking care of the family household. However, young Sam had no target for his future life and as a teenager, he always want to fit in the so-called friends who goofed off class and commit violence to prove their masculine, and Sam was landed in juvenile detention for dealing drugs.
Remeck has a broken family too, his mother got pregnant at 17 and his father was a drug addict, so Remeck was raised by his grandmother, unfortunately, his mother started to use drugs and Remeck started to skip from school and join in fights. Until when Rameck was put into juvenile jail at 16 years old, did he come to realize how wonderful it is to be a freeman.
Luckily, God give Sam and Rameck a second chance to rewrite their life, and they met George, who shared the same grow-up experience with them, and George persuaded the two to apply a free college program for students who want to be doctors. So they made a pact, a pact that bind them together along the way of chasing big dreams. With this pact, they helped with each other no matter what happens. And there was a positive competition among them, when one made an A in a test, the others would strive to make A’s too, none of them want to fall behind. And when one have the idea of giving up, like to be a rapper instead of being a dentist, the rest would communicate with him seriously and give recommendations. Or when one has mental or financial difficulties, the rest would try their best to offer help and concerns. They applied the program together, and they were all enrolled. During the summer camp, they studied together and monitored with each other. After entering the college, they took class together, work part time jobs together and partied together, solve problems together and have positive influence on one another. This pact worked in a powerful way and helped the three boy grow into successful man.

With this pact, their life are full of clear targets and motivation, and they got more strength to deal with challenges. Therefore, their way of changing delinquency was a big success, and this is a legitimate way, because their pact was well-designed and finally helped them to become dentists.According to the author, a pact should include the following features:

Without a doubt, three teenagers who used to be delinquents have successfully changed their life path and realized their dreams.
